What is the Graduate Nurse Rotational Program (GNRP)?

The GNRP is designed to help you explore various nursing specialties through rotations in different units, each lasting 6-8 weeks. Here are some of the units you may experience:

  • 3 South - Observation and Short Stay Acute Care Unit
  • 4 South - Trauma and Orthopedic Acute Care Unit
  • 4 IU (MRIU) - Medical Respiratory Intermediate Unit
  • 5 South - Cardiac Acute Care Unit
  • 6 South - Cardiovascular and Surgical Specialty Acute Care Unit
  • 7 South - Medical/Oncology Acute Care Unit
  • 8 South - Neurology and Neurosurgical Acute Care Unit
  • 8 East - Colorectal and Urology Acute Care Unit

What Does Placement Look Like Post-GNRP?

After completing the GNRP, placements are determined based on participant and hiring manager preferences, ensuring a collaborative matching process. You will be placed in the appropriate job title and salary based on your experience and education.

Shift/Hours

Our RNs work a rotating 12-hour schedule to ensure 24/7 coverage on the floor. Graduate Nurses must be eligible for State Board Licensure and pass the examination before starting this role.

Qualifications

  • BSN preferred.
  • Completion of UPMC Student Nurse Internship Program or clinical transitions course preferred.
  • Ability to provide care and interact with patients of all ages.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances

  • Current Pennsylvania licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse.
  • CPR certification required within 30 days of hire.
  • ACLS certification within 1 year, NIH Stroke Scale within 6 months.
